Prototype notice
This prototype defines the structure and presentation of Malaka's Community & Review Guidelines. Final moderation standards, legal requirements, enforcement processes and appeal rights must be supplied or approved before publication.
At a glance
Five principles for participating well
These are community principles for everyone on Malaka — however you're taking part. Final policy wording is defined in the sections below.
Be respectful
People can disagree without harassment or abuse.
Be relevant
Reviews and messages should relate to the actual Malaka context.
Be truthful about your experience
Don't misrepresent a Trip, service, identity or Offer.
Protect privacy
Don't publish another person's sensitive information.
Reports are reviewed
A report or allegation does not automatically establish a violation.
Section 1
About these Guidelines
Malaka connects people around real sailing experiences — from a whole-yacht holiday to a single berth, or finding a skipper for a yacht you already have. These Guidelines explain how to take part respectfully, how reviews work, what stays private, and what can be reported.
They cover expected conduct across Malaka, the difference between a public Review and private Feedback, how Skipper responses work, what kinds of content may be reported, how reports are reviewed, and how review moderation differs from Support and from Trust & Safety. They're written to be useful to Travellers and Skippers alike.
In plain language
This page is about how to behave, how reviews work and what happens if something is reported. A report starts a look — it isn't proof that a rule was broken.
Section 2
Who they apply to
These Guidelines apply to everyone taking part on Malaka and to the public and account interactions that happen here — including public Skipper profiles, Experiences, Departures, Bookings, Trips, Crew coordination, Skipper Requests, Offers, Messages, Reviews and contact with Support.
One identity, several roles
A single Malaka identity may act in more than one role at different times. Conduct expectations apply according to the relevant context — there is no separate "customer community" and "skipper community".
Traveller
Browsing, booking and joining Trips.
Crew member
Joining a Trip as part of the group aboard.
Booking Owner
Holding a Booking and coordinating its details.
Group Leader
Organising a group across a Trip or Departure.
Skipper
Publishing Experiences, responding to Requests and hosting Trips.
Policy wording required
Final contractual applicability of these Guidelines is [To be provided.]
Section 4
Respectful conduct
Malaka is a place for real people planning real time on the water together. We ask everyone to communicate with the same courtesy they'd expect on a boat with people they've just met. The categories below describe conduct that has no place on Malaka.
Respectful communication
Speak to others as you would face to face before, during and after a Trip.
No harassment
Don't target, pressure or repeatedly contact someone against their wishes.
No threats
Don't threaten harm to a person, their property or their livelihood.
No discriminatory abuse
Don't attack people based on who they are.
No unwanted sexual conduct
Unwelcome sexual attention or content is not acceptable in any Malaka context.
No impersonation
Don't pretend to be another person, Skipper or organisation.
No spam or scams
Don't use Malaka to send unsolicited bulk content or to defraud.
No deliberate deception
Don't knowingly mislead others about a Trip, service, identity or Offer.
Policy wording required
Final definitions and enforcement for each category are [To be approved.]
A fairness principle
Disagreement is allowed. A negative review, complaint or criticism is not automatically misconduct.
Content is not moderated simply because a rating is low, a Skipper disagrees, a Traveller is unhappy, or a review is commercially inconvenient. Honest, relevant criticism is a normal part of a trustworthy marketplace.
Section 5
Safety & serious concerns
Serious personal-safety or integrity concerns should be routed to Malaka's appropriate Trust & Safety process rather than debated in public content. This page describes how things fit together; it is not itself an investigation portal.
In an immediate danger or medical emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency services.
Report ≠ finding
A report is not a finding.
A report starts a review process. Malaka should distinguish reported information, available platform facts, and any eventual outcome. Nobody is presumed to have done wrong because a report exists.
Section 6
Marketplace integrity
People book Trips on Malaka because they trust what they read. Marketplace integrity is about keeping that trust intact — accurate information, honest identities, and fair dealing between everyone involved.
Accurate identity and profile information — represent who you actually are.
Truthful Experience information — describe what a Trip genuinely offers.
Accurate Departure and Offer information — dates, pricing and terms should reflect reality.
No impersonation of another person, Skipper or business.
No misleading availability — don't advertise Departures or berths you can't honour.
No spam or scams.
No manipulation of reviews — see Review manipulation below.
No interference with another user's account.
Policy wording required
Final marketplace-integrity rules are [To be provided.]
Finding a skipper is not an auction
Malaka's Skipper Request and Offer flow helps a customer find the right skipper — it is not a bidding war. There's no "winner", no "lowest bidder", no undercutting. Offers are private between the relevant customer and Skipper, and competing Skippers cannot see one another's Offers or conversations.
In plain language
When you ask for a skipper, each Skipper's Offer is just for you. Other Skippers don't see it, and it isn't a race to the cheapest price.
Section 7
Communications
Conduct expectations apply to messages across Malaka — but that does not mean every message is public. Different message spaces exist for different reasons.
Trip Group
Operational coordination between people on the same Trip.
Private Booking
Details between a Booking Owner and the Skipper.
Skipper Request / Offer
A private conversation between one customer and one Skipper.
Direct Skipper message
One-to-one contact where supported.
Support
Contact with Malaka's help channels.
Keep private things private
Don't move private information into group or public contexts. That includes private Booking terms, payment details, sensitive traveller data, competing Offers, and identity documents. The Privacy Policy governs how personal data is handled.
Trip Group is for operational coordination — arranging meeting points, timings and logistics. It shouldn't become a public social feed.
Section 8
Reviews
Reviews help future travellers choose well and help skippers build an honest reputation. Malaka keeps public and private information clearly separate.
Public Review
Content intended for public display where eligible.
Private Feedback
Information not displayed publicly.
Skipper Response
A public response attached to a public review where supported.
Moderation state
Tracked separately from the review's own lifecycle.

RatingDoes not enter public rating by default
Illustrative product model. A report does not appear in this diagram as an outcome — it is a step that leads to human review, not a verdict.
Where a review can come from
A review is linked to real activity. There are two supported sources — both begin with a completed Trip.
Hosted
Experience → Departure → Booking → Trip → Review.
Skipper-only
Skipper Request → Accepted Offer → Booking → Trip → Review. No Experience or Departure required.
What a useful review can cover
Reviewers are free to write in their own words. If it helps, useful reviews often touch on things like:
These themes are descriptive only. Reviewers are never forced into them, and Malaka does not attach any sentiment score to them.
Opinion vs fact
A review can contain personal opinion. Moderation should not rewrite a legitimate opinion just because someone disagrees with it.
A low rating alone is not grounds for removal. Malaka does not "protect a skipper rating", remove an "unfair" low rating, or offer a rating appeal simply because a score is disappointing.
Policy wording required
The final moderation standard for potential factual disputes in reviews is [To be defined.]
Section 9
Private feedback
Private Feedback is a way to share something with Malaka or a Skipper without it appearing publicly. It is not shown to public visitors, and it does not appear in the public rating by default. It may be used for product or service improvement according to final privacy and policy rules.
How the public rating is built
A public rating should draw only on eligible public reviews, according to final product rules. It excludes private feedback and reviews that have been removed from public view. Ratings are not manipulated.
In plain language
Public reviews are what everyone sees and what counts toward the score. Private feedback is just between you and Malaka or the Skipper — it doesn't show publicly and doesn't change the star rating.
Policy wording required
Final rules for how private feedback may be used are [To be provided.]
Section 10
Skipper responses
A Skipper may respond publicly to a review where the product supports it. A good response is a chance to add context and show how feedback is being handled.
Stay respectful.
Address the review, not the reviewer — respond to the points raised rather than attacking the person.
Avoid personal or sensitive information about anyone.
A response is not an edit
A Skipper Response can't change a reviewer's rating, their text, or who the review belongs to.
The review stays the reviewer's own. A response sits alongside it.
Policy wording required
Final rules governing Skipper responses are [To be provided.]
Section 11
Review eligibility
Reviews can be associated with completed Malaka activity where the product supports review eligibility. On Malaka, an eligible review is linked to a completed Malaka Trip — we don't use the phrase "verified purchase".
Policy wording required
Final review-eligibility rules are [To be provided.]
Section 12
Prohibited or restricted review content
Some review content may need moderation. These are generic categories of what can be reviewed — not a verdict on any particular review, and not a claim that content in these areas is automatically removed.
Personal information about another person.
Harassment.
Discriminatory content.
Threats or serious safety content.
Spam.
Misleading or unrelated content.
Impersonation.
Conflict of interest.
Review manipulation.
Other policy concern.
Policy wording required
Final definitions for each category are [To be provided.] Examples on this page are kept non-graphic.
Section 13
Personal information
Protect people's privacy
Don't publish another person's private information in public content.
That includes a phone number, email, home address, passport or ID, licence number, bank or payment data, an emergency contact, private health or accessibility details, or private message contents where sharing them would be inappropriate.
Public display identity
A public review may use the product's public display identity, according to final privacy settings. Legal or contact identity should not be exposed unnecessarily.
Related policy
How personal data is collected and handled is governed by the Privacy Policy — see Related policies below.
Section 14
Reporting content
If a public review or response seems to breach these Guidelines, it can be reported. The walkthrough below shows how reporting works in the product. Choosing a reason simply tells moderation what to look at — it does not prove a violation.

Selecting a reason does not decide the outcome.

This prototype does not store or send anything you type.
Submit your report

Your report starts a review by Malaka. It won't automatically hide or remove the review.
Illustration only.
This is where a real report would go for review
Prototype only — no report, moderation action or account action occurred. In the product, a report reaches human-led moderation, which looks at the content against the applicable guidelines. The review stays visible unless a specific, approved measure applies.
Report reasons
The generic reasons above — Personal information, Harassment, Discriminatory content, Threats / safety concern, Spam, Misleading / unrelated, Conflict of interest, and Other — help route a report. None of them, when selected, proves that a violation occurred.
Section 15
Moderation
Moderation is described as human-led where appropriate. Malaka does not assign an AI toxicity score, sentiment score, credibility score or truth score, and does not automatically classify anyone as guilty.
A review's moderation state and its public visibility are tracked separately. A report is one state; whether content is shown to the public is another.
Moderation states
No review needed
Nothing requires attention.
Reported
A report has been received.
Under review
Being looked at by moderation.
Action required
A decision or step is needed.
Hidden pending review
Temporarily hidden while assessed, where supported.
Removed from public view
No longer shown publicly.
Restored
Returned to public view.
Review lifecycle
Separately from moderation state, a review has its own lifecycle: Submitted → Published → Hidden → Removed. The two are not the same thing and shouldn't be conflated.
Reported ≠ removed
A report should not automatically hide or remove content.
Content is not auto-removed simply because it was reported — unless a final policy or workflow specifically supports a temporary safety measure. There is no invented auto-removal on Malaka.
Possible moderation outcomes
No action.
Request an edit, if the product supports it.
Hide pending review.
Remove from public view.
Restore.
Policy wording required
Final grounds and process for each outcome, and any moderation review or appeal process, are [To be provided.] Malaka does not invent moderation deadlines or appeal deadlines here.
Section 16
Removed or hidden content
Content can be removed from public display while moderation and history records may be retained, according to final policy and privacy rules. Because history may be preserved, this is described as "removed from public view" rather than "deleted".
Editing a review
Reviewers can't necessarily edit a review indefinitely. If the product supports versioning, review history is preserved conceptually.
Policy wording required
Review edit and version rules, and any retention period for removed content, are [To be provided.]
Section 17
Review manipulation & retaliation
Reviews only mean something if they're genuine. The following concepts are the kinds of behaviour that undermine that trust:
Fake reviews.
Coordinated review exchange.
Paying for a specific rating.
Coercing someone to remove or change a review.
Retaliating against someone because of a review.
Retaliation
No one should threaten or harass another person because of a review or a report.
Conflict of interest & duplicate reports
A potential conflict of interest can be reported and reviewed — but a report does not, on its own, conclude that a review is fake. Similarly, multiple reports do not prove a violation; duplicate reports may simply be linked together operationally.
Policy wording required
Final legal and policy wording on manipulation and retaliation is [To be provided.] Rules for incentives or review solicitation are [To be provided.]
Section 18
Support, review moderation & Trust & Safety
Three different workflows handle three different kinds of issue. They can link to one another, but they stay distinct.
Support
Everyday help
Help with service, Booking and product issues.
Questions about a Trip or Departure
Booking and account help
How something on Malaka works
Review Moderation
Public content
Assesses whether public Review or Response content meets the applicable guidelines.
Reported reviews and responses
Human-led assessment
No AI scoring of people
Trust & Safety
Serious concerns
Restricted review of serious safety or integrity concerns.
Personal-safety concerns
Handled with restricted access
Not debated in public content
These workflows can link to one another but remain distinct.
Some issues belong elsewhere
A payment complaint is not resolved by editing or removing a review — payment records belong to the Payments and Booking workflows. A cancellation disagreement may be mentioned in a review if otherwise permitted, but refund entitlement is governed by the Booking and Cancellation Policy (Page 100), not by moderation.
Trust & Safety privacy
Serious-concern handling protects the people involved. Malaka doesn't unnecessarily disclose a reporter's identity, restricted evidence, a full investigation narrative, private message history, or sensitive documents.
Where should this go?
Navigation helper
Pick what you're dealing with and we'll point you to the right place. This is navigation, not a decision about any case.
This is navigation, not case adjudication. Nothing here submits a report or opens a case.
Community examples
These synthetic examples are non-binding illustrations of the principles above.
Useful review
"Marko communicated clearly before departure and adapted our route when the wind changed."
Specific, relevant and tied to the actual experience.
Privacy issue
A review that contains another Crew member's phone number.
Personal information about someone else shouldn't be published in public content.
Legitimate criticism
"The embarkation process felt disorganized."
A low rating alone does not make this prohibited. Honest criticism is allowed.
Review response
"Thank you for the feedback. We've reviewed the embarkation instructions for future Trips."
Addresses the review respectfully, without attacking the reviewer.
Serious concern
A report about threatening behaviour.
This should be routed for appropriate review rather than debated publicly.
Section 19
Account & professional actions
Serious or repeated policy violations may have consequences for an account or a professional relationship with Malaka. This prototype does not define automatic bans, a strike system, or a fixed penalty schedule — for example, there is no "three reports means suspension" or "one safety report means a ban".
Policy wording required
Potential account or professional consequences for serious or repeated policy violations, including any review or notice rights, are [To be provided.] Any moderation review or appeal process is [To be provided.]
Outside this prototype
Any legally required authority-response process is outside this prototype and must be defined by counsel. Review and content licensing provisions are governed by the final Terms.

Related policies
These Guidelines sit alongside Malaka's other policies. Together they define the full picture.
